Frequently Asked Questions — Kundalini Yoga Leeds

What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is one of the most powerful and comprehensive forms of yoga available. Unlike many other yoga styles that focus primarily on physical postures, Kundalini Yoga combines kryas (sets of movements and poses), breathwork (pranayama), meditation, mantra, and sound therapy into a complete mind-body practice.

The word Kundalini refers to the energy believed to lie dormant at the base of the spine. Through regular practice, this energy is awakened and distributed throughout the body, supporting physical health, mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual growth.

Why is it men only?

Men and women have different bodies, different energies, and different social conditioning around vulnerability and self-expression. Many men who would benefit from yoga are put off by the typical male-to-female ratio in a standard yoga class.

My Saturday morning sessions provide a safe, non-judgemental space where men can explore Kundalini Yoga without self-consciousness — where it's fine to be a beginner, fine to find it difficult, and fine to talk about what comes up. The masculine and feminine aspects of Kundalini Yoga are both present in every session, but the environment is designed specifically with men in mind.

Do I need any experience to attend?

No — my sessions are designed specifically for beginners. You do not need any prior yoga experience, flexibility, or fitness level to attend. All kryas and poses are adapted to individual ability and every man is welcomed at exactly the level he is at.

What happens in a typical session?

Each session runs for one hour and typically includes:

  • Tuning in — opening mantra to centre and focus the group

  • Warm up — gentle movement to prepare the body

  • Krya — a set of specific Kundalini Yoga exercises focused on a particular area of the body or aspect of consciousness

  • Breathwork (pranayama) — specific breathing techniques to regulate the nervous system and build energy

  • Meditation — guided or mantra-based meditation

  • Sound therapy — use of instruments and voice to stimulate the vagus nerve and deepen the meditative state

  • Closing mantra — to seal the practice

No two sessions are identical — each one is thoughtfully designed around the needs of the group.
